What we collect and why

We ask for information relevant to discovering and constructing your personalized story: your reflections, preferences, optional birth details, relationships you choose to describe, and an optional photograph. We also keep your name and delivery email, submitted answers, generated story and artwork, and the order, support, and security records needed to operate the service. Please leave out information that is unnecessary for your story, including financial account numbers, identity documents, or sensitive details about other people.

Services that help us create your story

OpenAI processes relevant answers and, when provided, photographs to generate text and artwork. Our hosting and storage infrastructure, including Cloudflare and OpenAI Sites, processes information needed to run the website. Resend processes the recipient address and delivery message to email your book link. Stripe handles payment details when checkout is used; we do not store your full card number. These providers may maintain their own operational and security records.

See OpenAI’s business data information and Resend’s Privacy Policy for more about their practices. If printed books become available, the checkout and this policy will explain the information sent to the printer before you order.

Who can see your story

Authorized studio administrators can access submissions to produce, review, troubleshoot, and deliver your book. Customer stories are not automatically posted publicly or used as social-media examples. Anyone you share a private reading link with may be able to read that book, so treat the link as private. We may disclose information where required by law or necessary to address fraud, security incidents, or legal claims.

Retention and your choices

Our aim is to retain only what is needed to create, deliver, restore, and support your story, together with necessary payment and security records. Submitted answers, photographs, and completed books are currently saved in the production system; they are not automatically erased when generation finishes. We have not yet introduced a fixed automatic deletion schedule. You may ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal material. Some records may need to be retained for accounting, disputes, security, or legal obligations, and backup copies may remain until their normal replacement cycle.

Earlier-story continuity and customer-derived shared writing memories are currently paused. Entering an email address does not unlock another person’s earlier stories. We will explain any future change to these uses before enabling it.

Cookies, security, and external links

Session cookies help keep your submission associated with your browser and protect access. Technical records and rate limits help prevent misuse. We use access controls and encrypted connections, but no online service can promise absolute security. Facebook and Instagram buttons are ordinary outbound links, not embedded social feeds; those platforms apply their own policies when you visit them. Service providers may process information in countries other than your own.

Children and other people’s information

This site is intended for adults placing a personal story order. Please do not submit information about a child or another person unless you have appropriate permission and it is necessary for the requested story. Our separate children’s-book offering will need its own parent-focused privacy information.

Contact and updates

For privacy questions or requests, email hello@echoesbefore.com. We may need to verify that a request relates to your own information before releasing or deleting records. We will update this page when our practices change.

Optional Meta marketing measurement

Only if you allow marketing tracking, we send Meta a PageView for our public homepage using pixel 1416235013804692. The request identifies EchoesBefore.com and the event; Meta also receives technical information such as your IP address and browser information, and may receive or set its own cookies where your browser allows them. Meta may associate this activity with your Facebook or Instagram account and use it under its own policies.

We do not send questionnaire answers, birth details, photographs, names, email addresses, story content, order identifiers, private reading links, or URL query values through this pixel. Tracking is excluded from the questionnaire, restored stories, checkout-return links, reading pages, testing pages, and admin. This installation measures homepage visits only, not purchases, and does not load Meta’s automatic form-matching scripts.

You can allow or decline below, or use “Privacy & cookie choices” at the bottom of the homepage. Declining does not prevent you from creating or receiving your story. We remember your choice on this browser for up to 180 days and honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals by blocking this marketing request. Changing your choice stops future requests; it cannot recall information already received by Meta. See Meta’s Privacy Policy.
